When it is the summer transfer window, Manchester United are set to challenge Arsenal for two major targets. The Red Devils are reportedly eyeing Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia and RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, both of whom Arsenal had been pursuing. Garcia, a 23-year-old Spanish goalkeeper, has impressed in LaLiga, and while Arsenal had personal terms agreed with him and a failed €20 million bid last summer, United are now aiming to hijack the move.
With Espanyol setting a release clause of €25-30 million, Garcia could be a potential replacement for Andre Onana, who has faced growing scrutiny at Old Trafford. United’s new head of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, is also focusing on Sesko, the Slovenian forward who has been linked with Arsenal for months.
Vivell, who has worked with Sesko at Red Bull clubs, was seen scouting him during Leipzig’s recent win over Wolfsburg. Sesko’s release clause ranges between €70 million and €80 million, depending on his performances, and United have been increasingly confident of signing him ahead of Arsenal. This move comes as United look to replace misfiring striker Rasmus Hojlund.
