Summary: Apple is rumored to unveil a major redesign with iOS 19, featuring rounder icons, glass-like visual effects, and interface tweaks inspired by visionOS, as revealed in Jon Prosser’s latest video. While some elements remain speculative, we’ll have to wait until WWDC 2025 for the official unveiling.
iOS 19 is rumored to introduce a brand-new design. This is going to be the biggest revamp to the iOS platform since iOS 7. Now, thanks to a new video by Jon Prosser, the new iOS 19 design has been revealed.
Brand new design
According to the video, it shows off the supposed changes we can look forward to in iOS 19. For starters, icons will now be rounder than ever. Apple has also applied some glass-like effects to the operating system, where the corners and edges of widgets have this shimmery effect. It also seems that when users tilt their devices, the shimmery effect will shift accordingly, as if you’re looking at an actual piece of glass.
It sounds novel and we are curious how much this will impact battery life, but it is pretty cool. If all of this sounds and looks familiar, it is because it is similar in concept to Apple’s visionOS, the platform powering the Vision Pro headset. Apple has also tweaked the toggles, making them more pill-shaped and longer.
In addition to giving iOS 19 a new design, Apple is moving some elements around its native apps. For instance, the Messages app has its search field moved to the bottom, similar to the address bar in Safari. Although the change is controversial, users will likely grow accustomed to it over time, just as they did with Safari.
Not the first time
That being said, Prosser has previously shared images and concept videos of what iOS 19 will look like. A couple of weeks ago, Prosser published a video showing some concept renders of the new iOS 19 design. However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman quickly disputed the video, claiming that many of the things shown in it were not entirely accurate.
Prosser has addressed that in his latest video. He says the mock-ups reflect exactly what he saw and heard at the time. For example, many expect iOS 19 to feature completely round icons similar to visionOS. However, Prosser didn’t see those round icons in his first video.
He only later found out that Apple had apparently hidden them on purpose to prevent leaks and that the current version he saw has more pronounced rounder corners, but they aren’t complete circles. He acknowledges that this could change before the final release, but this is what he has seen so far.
In any case, as with all leaks and rumors, take it with a grain of salt. Apple will show off iOS 19 at WWDC 2025 in June, so we’ll have more details then.
