Summary: Developer Supergiant Games has confirmed that Hades II will be launching on the Nintendo Switch 2 before other console platforms. It will be available on the original Nintendo Switch family of devices at the same time.
Hades II doesn’t have an official console launch date yet, or any official launch date for that matter, but it is now confirmed to be coming to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 as a timed exclusive. Hades II is currently available on PC in early access. So, you can play it right now if you feel so inclined. You could even play it on a handheld if you have something like the ROG Ally X or Steam Deck.
But when it comes to playing on consoles, you won’t get your pick of the litter right away. Hades II developer Supergiant Games has now confirmed that it’s launching for Nintendo’s consoles first. Details about the game’s console launch were presented by Supergiant Games as part of a ‘Creator’s Voice’ video on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel.
It’ll also be launching for Switch and Switch 2 on the same day as the game leaves early access for PC and Mac. So, it will be a simultaneous launch across all of those platforms.
The Hades II console launch should include PlayStation and Xbox eventually
As of right now, Supergiant Games hasn’t confirmed any details regarding the launch on PlayStation and Xbox platforms. Having said that, all of the studio’s other titles are available on both. With that in mind, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S owners can probably expect to see the game at some point in the future. It’s still unclear when that time might be, but it’s unlikely that Hades II will skip those consoles entirely.
When the first Hades game launched for consoles, it followed this exact same release strategy. It came out for PC, Mac, and Nintendo Switch first. Following up with a release on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One at a later date.
The game runs smoothly on both Switch consoles
As fun as the Nintendo Switch is, it has its limitations when it comes to performance. Luckily, it doesn’t sound like Hades II will have any performance issues. Supergiant Games confirms that it has Hades II running at a smooth 60 frames per second on both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
In fact, hitting 60 frames per second was a big focus for the studio. “We really, really, really want our games to perform at 60 frames per second,” says Studio Director Amir Rao. He continues by saying that the studio knows they can push some of the graphical features with the extra power of the Switch 2. Regardless of which version of the Switch you play the game on, though, it’ll be a smooth experience. Hades II is slated for a full version 1.0 release sometime in 2025.
